Concealed Pistol License (CPL) Certification

Take Control. Stay Prepared. Carry with Confidence.

A firearm is only as effective as the person handling it. If you choose to carry a concealed pistol for self-defense, proper education and training aren’t just important—they’re essential. At The Oleander Center, our CPL Certification class is designed to ensure that every student not only meets state requirements but also leaves with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to carry responsibly.

Our CPL Certification class is a hands-on, no-nonsense program that prepares you for real-life situations, ensuring that you understand the law and your responsibilities as they pertain to being a responsible gun owner and carrier. We emphasize situational awareness, de-escalation, and self-defense strategies, giving you the tools you need to protect yourself and those you love.

We proudly serve Metro Detroit and surrounding communities, from St. Clair Shores to Ann Arbor.

CPL Class: Are You Ready?

Our Concealed Pistol License (CPL) class meets and exceeds the training requirements necessary to apply for your Michigan CPL. However, we want to make it clear—this course is NOT for beginners.

This is an advanced class with a range qualification test required to pass. To pass and receive your CPL Certificate, you must demonstrate:

✔ Safe handling and operation of a firearm
✔ Proper loading, unloading, and malfunction clearing
✔ The ability to fire 30 rounds on target to receive a passing grade

If you are new to firearms, we strongly recommend starting with our Introduction to Handguns training before taking a CPL class to build a solid foundation in firearm safety and handling to prepare you for CPL Qualification.

CPL Refresher Course

Carrying a firearm comes with great responsibility, and staying updated on changing gun laws is crucial. Michigan CPL holders must renew their license every 3-5 years, which requires proof of continued education.

Our CPL Refresher Course is designed for current CPL holders who want to ensure they remain legally compliant and confident in their ability to carry.

This course covers:
Legal Updates: Stay informed on evolving state and federal gun laws
Use of Force Laws: Understand when and how you can legally defend yourself
Responsible Carrying Practices: Best practices for everyday carry and home defense
Refresher on Defensive Shooting: Rebuilding and maintaining proper technique under pressure

A firearm is not a “set it and forget it” tool. Train regularly. Stay prepared. Carry responsibly.

Beyond CPL: Continue Your Training

Getting your CPL is just the beginning. Responsible gun ownership means continued training, sharpening your skills, and understanding how to protect yourself beyond the firearm. We encourage all CPL holders to further their education with:

Firearm Training – Build confidence in defensive shooting, situational awareness, and real-world application
Self-Defense Training – Learn how to prevent attacks, recognize danger, and fight back when necessary
Mindfulness & Meditation – Strengthen mental focus, situational awareness, and stress management for confident decision-making

Your firearm is just one tool in your self-defense toolbox. Make sure you know how to protect yourself with and without a gun.

Your Safety, Your Responsibility

Carrying a firearm is a right—but it’s also a responsibility that requires knowledge, training, and constant awareness. The Oleander Center is dedicated to ensuring you walk away not just legally qualified, but truly prepared.
